Rupture of Popliteal Arterial Aneurysm due to Salmonella Infection

چکیده
bacteremia are not common. However, salmonella can involve the thoracic and abdominal aorta, as well as the coronary arteries and peripheral arteries, or it can involve vascular grafts and prosthetic valves (1, 2). Benenson et al. (3) reported that adult patients over the age of 50 with nontyphoidal salmonella bacteremia developed life-threatening vascular complications. In humans, typhoidal and nontyphoidal salmonella infections are most often associated with contaminated foods, and such infections may be divided into four groups: gastroenteritis, enteric fever, bacteremia with or without localized extraintestinal infection, and an asymptomatic chronic carrier state. CT is considered useful for the diagnosis and follow-up of salmonella aneurysms before surgery (4). Some reports have presented findings on aortic aneurysms that were already established at the time of diagnosis, and relatively few of these aneurysms showed progression from a normal or dilated aorta to marked dilatation or rupture (2, 3, 5). Rupture of a salmonella aneurysm, like the one seen in our case, demonstrates the dynamic course of this pathology in the popliteal artery and how rapid its evolution can be, and this has not been previously reported on.

Salmonella typhimurium and rupture of the thoracic aorta.
Transient salmonella bacteraemia is common in patients with gastroenteritis caused by non-typhoidal salmonella' and may result in metastatic infection. Osteomyelitis, arthritis, meningitis, and endocarditis are well recognised. Older patients with atheromatous arterial disease are susceptible to endothelial infection, which may lead to the formation of an aneurysm.2 We describe a case of salmon...
متن کاملSerratia liquefaciens Infection of a Previously Excluded Popliteal Artery Aneurysm
INTRODUCTION Popliteal artery aneurysms (PAAs) are rare in the general population, but they account for nearly 70% of peripheral arterial aneurysms. There are several possible surgical approaches including exclusion of the aneurysm and bypass grafting, or endoaneurysmorrhaphy and interposition of a prosthetic conduit. The outcomes following the first approach are favorable, but persistent blood...

INTRODUCTION Aneurysms of popliteal artery are the most frequently reported aneurysm after abdominal aorta. An unusual presentation is compression to adjacent structure. A pulsing mass was present in th...
متن کاملEndovascular repair of a ruptured popliteal artery aneurysm associated with popliteal arteriovenous fistula.
Popliteal artery aneurysms (PAAs) represent the most common peripheral arterial aneurysm and are a significant cause of patient morbidity and limb loss. Complications of PAA include distal embolisation, thrombosis and, rarely, rupture. Whereas open surgical repair remains the gold standard, endovascular exclusion has been demonstrated to be a valid alternative in selected patients. We present a...
متن کاملMycotic (infected) aneurysm of the popliteal artery and arthritis following Salmonella bacteriemia.
We report a case of a mycotic (infected) aneurysm of the popliteal artery due to Salmonella enteritidis. The clinical presentation may be confused with other more common causes of diffuse swollen leg, causing a delay in the diagnosis and proper therapy. Prompt surgical resection of the infected aneurysm together with medical therapy is required for successful treatment.
